Great Grandma Freeman

This past Tuesday my (Rod) Great Grandma Freeman passed away. She was just 4 months shy of her 107th birthday. She was the 2nd oldest person in Utah and was definitely ready to go and be with everyone waiting for her there (especially her husband, who passed away in 1984!)

Up until the day she died she was completely with it. She remembered what everyone was doing, down to her great great grandchildren. She remembered names, birthdays, where everyone went to school, who everyone was married to. It was amazing!

We drove to Logan yesterday for her funeral and then to Bear Lake for the burial.

Here are some pictures of Tan and I with her the last time we visited her in Logan

Derm

Thursday is our day off. It would usually be filled with pizza buffets, TV on DVD, baking, shopping, and the like - but ever since we got good insurance, every Thursday has been our day to go to appointments - dentist, orthodontist, eye doctor, etc. Today was the dermatologist

For those of you that don't know, Tanya and I haven't had the best of luck in the skin department. 2 years ago Tanya had a basal cell carcinoma cancer removed from her skin, and I have been treated twice for a pre-cancerous condition on my lips. Today at our checkup our skin was in very good condition, but the doc had to burn my lips with liquid nitrogen.

Sorry that we have no plans of ever not spending as much time as possible in the sun, and that we have a life of this kind of stuff to look forward to it.

Unexpected Sleepover

Well, here I (Rod) am sitting on the commuter bus from Provo to Salt Lake, something that I get to do thrice a week this semester. Public transportation is great, I'm totally not above it, but I will be glad to bid UTA adieu when this semester is over.

Fortunately, these buses have Wi-Fi so I decided to make the most of the hour and write a blog post about this weekend as I cruise down I-15 past the hundreds of multi-level marketing billboards that line the ride home. Leave it to Utah County. Tangent, sorry.

So I logged on to write a post about last weekend, and I see that Curtis and Ashley beat me to it. They eloquently described the weekend, so you should probably read about it HERE.

*As an addition to what Ashley wrote, I personally was thrilled that we got stranded and I live for situations exactly like this one. It was as if I were being rewarded for living my life right and was allowed to stay in a 30 person cabin with my BFFs on accident. It also gave me an excuse to eat a Totino's Pizza at 4 AM (the only food that could be scavenged) and then go to bed without brushing my teeth. It's as if I were 12 years old again. I was bummed, however, that I spent all that time in PC during Sundance and didn't even get to see a Kardashian

Grandma

Last week my (Rod) Grandma Rasmussen passed away. Her funeral was on Monday. It was sad to see her go but it was fun to get together as a family and reminisce about memories of Grandma. It was clear at the funeral that she was well known for 3 things:

1 - Her amazing garden
2 - Her EXTREME thriftiness
3 - Her all around coolness

She was an amazing woman and she will be missed!

A New Year

Recently I have been thinking about my life and some of the goals I have. We are starting a new year, I am now OFICIALLY graduated from college and Rod is almost done. Right now I am working full time at the hospital while Rod finishes school. For the last 4 years I have waited and waited to be dunzo with the University of Utah, but working full time has turned out to be a real punch in the face from reality. I have decided that if I am going to work the rest of my life it better be a job that makes me happy. I have always wanted to be a teacher, so that is what I am working for. The last month I have been filling out my graduate school applications, now I just have to wait . . . the suspense is killing me. With this new direction in my life I have decided to make some other short term life goals, which are:

Go to graduate school and become a teacher
Work at a job I love
Move somewhere with a beach
Become a yoga instructor
Blog more often
Run a half marathon (a full would probably kill me)
Learn to surf – not on a 12 foot foam board, but on a legit surfboard
Have enough money that we don’t have to shop at WalMart and eat only organic things from healthy stores (long shot?)
Learn how to take better pictures
Travel . . . everywhere
Adopt a silly puppy, I will name him pickles
Have some cute kids (this is more of a long term goal)
Buy a house, condo, or grass shack

I am such a lucky girl to be married to my best friend. I’m not just saying that, he REALLY is my best friend. There is no one I have more in common with in the world. There is no one that makes me happier in the world. We have been married for over a year, but we have so much in store for us, so much to see and do. This year is the beginning of our adventure and I can’t wait.
Happy New Year!
